This qualification reflects the role of individuals in a range of community settings and ‎peoples’ homes, who provide support in a manner that empowers people with disabilities to ‎achieve greater levels of independence, self-reliance, community participation and ‎wellbeing. Workers promote a person-centred approach, work according to and may ‎contribute to an individualised plan, and work without direct supervision. They may be ‎required to supervise and/or coordinate a small team.‎

The training package does not specify any work hour requirements to achieve this ‎qualification. However, several core and elective units’ assessment conditions stipulate their ‎performance evidence to be demonstrated in the workplace. Therefore, a candidate must ‎complete at least 100 hours of work placement to achieve this qualification from the ‎Australian National Institute of Education (ANIE) as outlined in the Training and Assessment ‎Schedule section of this document. ‎

You can apply for the recognition of existing qualifications or skills, knowledge and experience ‎‎(Credit and/or Recognition of Prior Learning). The granting of Credit or RPL may affect course fees ‎as well as the duration of the course. Please refer to our ‘International Student Handbook’ for ‎more details.


 

 

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

This qualification requires the following entry requirements: ‎

  • Completion of CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability)‎, OR
  • Completion of CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability)‎, OR ‎
  • Completion of CHC30408 Certificate III in Disability PLUS the CHCSS00125 Entry to ‎Certificate IV in Disability Support Skill Set.‎

Additionally, the Australian National Institute of Education (ANIE) has the following entry ‎requirements for international students who would like to enrol into the CHC43121 Certificate ‎IV in Disability Support that they must: ‎

  • Be at least 18 years of age.‎
  • Have completed at least the equivalent of year 12 education. ‎
  • Participate in a course entry interview to determine suitability for the course and ‎student needs (not applicable if they met the entry requirements in ANIE).‎
  • Participate in an LLN (Language, Literacy and Numeracy) assessment*, if ‎applicable, to determine and demonstrate their readiness and learning capacity to ‎undertake their desired course.‎
  • Have the required English language proficiency such as an overall IELTS** score of 6.0 with no individual band ‎score of less than 5.5 (test results must be not more than two (2) years old). English language proficiency can also ‎be demonstrated through documented evidence of any of the following:‎
    – the student was educated in an English-speaking country for at least five (5) ‎years; or
    – the student has completed at least six (6) months of a minimum of AQF level 4 ‎course or higher in an Australian RTO within the last two (2) years; or
    -the student has successfully completed an English Placement Test at ANIE. ‎
* For details about LLN requirements and assessment process, please refer to the ‘LLN ‎‎(Language, Literacy and Numeracy) Requirements’ section in the ANIE International Student Handbook. 
** Note that other English language tests such as PTE and TOEFL can be accepted. In that case, students are required to provide their results so that it can be confirmed they are equivalent to minimum IELTS score of 6.0 or higher.

 

 

 

MODE OF DELIVERY

This course’s training and assessment activities are conducted in the classroom, where 20 hours per week attendance is required. Additionally, training and assessment are conducted in a practical simulation lab. ANIE has its own industry-standard lab to train and assess the students in a simulated environment.

A mandatory work placement component is also included in this course. The student will complete this component in a compliant care centre/setting to achieve real-life work experience.

For all enrolled students, Australian National Institute of Education is responsible under the National Vocational Education and Training Regulator Act 2011 for the quality of the training and assessment activities and for the issuance of all AQF (Australian Qualifications Framework) certificates.


 

 

 

COURSE DURATION

This qualification will be delivered over 52 weeks, including 40 weeks of training and assessment spread over 4 terms of 10 weeks each, that also includes minimum 100 hours of work placement component. The students will also have 12 weeks of holidays (3 weeks per term) over the whole duration.


UNITS OF COMPETENCY

Seven (7) core units and three (3) elective units are required for the award of the CHC43121 Certificate IV in Disability Support. ANIE has selected the elective units according to the regulatory packaging rules and guided by the job outcomes sought, local industry requirements, and the complexity of skills appropriate to the AQF level of this qualification.

CHC43121 Certificate IV in Disability Support is a course suitable for international students who are seeking to pursue a career in the community services sector. This qualification enables the student to seek employment in various job roles such as Social ‎Educator (Disability), Day Support Disability Officer, Marketing Coordinator (Disability), Local ‎area coordinator, Social trainer, Disability Team Leader, Disabilities Supervisor, Project ‎Officer, Disability Support Assistant (Schools), Job coordinator, Disability Service Officer, ‎Senior Disability Worker, Lifestyle Support Officer, Senior Personal Care Assistant, ‎Community Development Officer, Support Facilitator (Disability), Behavioural Support Officer ‎and other relevant designations. ‎

Students who complete this course may wish to continue their higher education in a range of ‎areas, including the Community Services sector in the Diploma level qualifications.
